Lessons for Life

Bring It On!

The year 2020 has been quite the experience, if not a full-on rough year. Luckily it went fairly quick. Now it’s time to gear up for the next one and the adventures to come with 2021.

Everyone has had a rough year, some more than others. I will not make any claims that things could or could not be worse for anybody. Situations and experiences effect all of us differently. Many have hit the rock bottom of their existence. Some have noticed new growth. Whatever the case is for you, the next year can be an incredible one!

Rough Year in a Story

My favorite part in stories is when the character has already gone through a crap load of difficulties. With one failure after another, and no clues they might have success, but they go forward anyway. The moment when the character has nothing left to lose, and decides to step out of the dark abyss they’ve fallen into. The moment when they are ready to take on the world, and have just made the decision to do so.

The rough year for the character may have been becoming an orphan, been targeted by all kinds of monsters, and made fun of by all of his or her peers. With only a friend or two, and the biggest and most experienced villain alive, the character decides to be a hero, simply because, why not and who else?

A Rough Year in Real Life

One of the hardest and worst experiences I can imagine going through is having humanity betray you, rip everything from you, and convince you that you are less than who you are. To say that victims of the holocaust went through one rough year after another, is a gross understatement. And yet, there were survivors. Viktor Frankl is one such survivor who has made a number of powerful statements. My favorite, however, is the following:

Everything can be taken from a man except for one thing: The last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s one way.

-Viktor Frankl

The New Year

I am aware that everyone has their own challenges in life, and in this time in their lives. But I do believe that there is no reason this coming year can’t be better than this past year we’ve all experienced. It will be hard, and certainly takes some mental preparation. However, our lives are stories that just haven’t been put in a book yet, and we are the heroes. This means that we have the ability and the choice to make this an incredible year.

Get ready to face off and fight like this is the finale, because you may just be a year away from your ‘happily ever after’. You have already survived a lot, so why not push a little harder with the strength you have gained, or what strength you have left? We just finished one heck of a year, so bring on the next one!
