Lessons for Life

All Things Needed

Throughout life we have different needs. We go through different phases and experiences that require different things of us and cause us to have changing needs. While our needs may change, the fact that we have needs won’t. But another thing that doesn’t change; we always have everything that we need.

Now is when you proclaim that you don’t have all the time you need or some other thing you need that you don’t have. I am right there with you. I never feel like I have enough time or the courage I need or talents. But that’s just how I feel. In reality, if I look around I will find everything that I need, I just have to recognize what it is and how to use it. The same goes for you.

When we look around for the resources that are the obvious answers for our needs, we don’t always find them. But there are times when we just need to look outside of the box and see the resources that are available to us that will allow us to meet our needs. I came across this video, made by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, that illustrates this, called “He Polished my Toe”.

Regardless of what our position might be, we have ways to make things work. We have certain people that we know or talents unique to us, there is always something that can be used to make the situation work according to our needs. We just need to change our perspective.

A few years ago I felt like I never had any clothes to wear, when I got up and looked in my closet, everything I saw I seemed to have worn one or two days ago. Of course the solution that comes to my head is that I need to go and do some clothes shopping. But as a poor college student, going out to get a whole new wardrobe wasn’t really a possibility. So instead of using money I didn’t have, I used my talent for setting up a system to solve my problem.

I started organizing my clothes left to right, I lined them all up on hangers in my closet, keeping the different colors spread out. Then when I went to get something to wear, I would take whatever was on the right side, when I was finished I would put it away on the left side. That way I didn’t have to waste time wondering about what I should wear, or when I last wore it. Whatever was there was what I was going to wear because it’s what I haven’t worn the longest. Of course after laundry and other things (procrastination putting clothes away) the order is shifted around so I’m not wearing the same sequence.

Regardless of what your need is, whether it be silly or a necessity, there is a solution that’s already there for you. You just need to look around and find it. When you don’t have time to write or read, learn to find the ways to make it work. Maybe you don’t have a solid hour to devote, but you do have a few minutes before a class or meeting. Look around and find that everything you need is already there!

Comment and tell me about how you have found everything you need.
